En chantier…Janvier 2008 - Juin 2010
After their initial enthusiasm, Phoebe, then 12, had to get on with school work at her new Collège, and Jean-Luke ( click here) decided he didn't like DIY, even in the South of France.
Après leur enthousiasme initial, ma fille Phoebe, qui avait 12 ans, a du se consacrer a ses études de collégienne, et JL annonça qu'il n'aimait pas les travaux de chantier, même sur la Côte d'Azur!
We had some wonderful people doing the heavy work, demolition, plumbing and electrics during the first months- their anonymity remains complete in a haze of black 'mâchefer' dust! ( a kind of cinder wall filler)
Des personnes fantastiques ont fait le travail de chantier lourd et professionel, démolition, plomberie, électricité, etc…leur anonymat reste intact sous un nuage noir de poussière de mâchefer!
BUT…I spent the next two and a half years on various ladders, or on my knees, stripping, filling, plastering, cementing and painting walls, floors, windows, doors and ceilings…
MAIS… j'ai passé deux ans et demie en chantier, sur une échelle ou parterre, aménageant murs, plafonds, sols, fenêtres et portes…
And drowning in French bureaucracy ( which comes from the French word Bureau = desk!)
Et me noyant dans un déluge de papiers bureaucratiques françaises ( du mot fr. Bureau!)
